The film adaptation of the operetta is based on a true event: \nA group of prisoners of war gathered in a Siberian camp during World War I, \nIn the course of the Second World War, a group of soldiers from a camp in Siberia, as an amateur theatre troupe, were forced to perform under difficult conditions. \nThe Queen of the Chards!<\/p>

Since they had neither music nor libretto available to them in the Siberian POW camp, the\nthe text was written from memory, and the music was written by a Viennese officer from memory and incomplete Russian\nfrom a poor piano score. They made the sets, props and costumes themselves,\nor procured. Of course, the female roles were also played by men.
\nAccording to contemporary records, the men who played the female roles were \nwere held in high esteem and celebrated as true prima donnas.
